About nexusMIDI

nexusMIDI is a
phybus
expander that adds classic DIN MIDI inputs and outputs to connected modules like
zetaSID
. Connect external MIDI keyboards, controllers, and sequencers to control your phybus instruments, or send data back out, whether that's arpeggiated notes or SysEx patch dumps to external gear.

Features

Quad MIDI DIN ports: two MIDI inputs and two MIDI outputs in standard 5-pin DIN format

phybus connectivity: seamlessly connects to zetaSID and other phybus modules (phybus cable included)

Standard MIDI circuitry: reliable MIDI signal transmission even with long cables

MIDI input routing: route external MIDI data to control pitch, gates, triggers, and modulation of connected phybus modules

MIDI output routing: send arpeggio notes, SysEx patch data, and other MIDI messages from phybus modules to external gear

ASID over SysEx protocol support: stream SID music files directly to zetaSID from compatible software

Polyphonic MIDI control: combined with multiple zetaSIDs, enables classic MIDI synthesizer workflows with up to six stereo voices

Status LEDs: visual feedback for MIDI activity on all ports, also indicating available unspliced ports

Eurorack standard: powered via standard 10-pin eurorack power connector (power cable included)
MIDI control for zetaSID

When combined with zetaSID, nexusMIDI unlocks the full potential of your phybus instrument cluster:

Polyphonic MIDI keyboard control: play zetaSID like a traditional synthesizer using any MIDI keyboard or controller

MIDI clock sync: synchronize arpeggiators, LFOs, and wave sequencers to external MIDI clock from your DAW or hardware sequencer

MIDI modulation: use mod wheel and pitch bend as modulation sources

Velocity sensitivity: MIDI note velocity can control the output DCA for expressive dynamics

Arpeggio forwarding: send zetaSID arpeggio patterns out via MIDI to control other synthesizers

SysEx patch transfer: save and load patches via MIDI SysEx to external editors or librarians, e.g. our
zetaSID web editor

ASID playback: stream classic C64 SID music files directly to zetaSID, e.g. via a MIDI USB interface and your web browser

Connect a MIDI keyboard to nexusMIDI IN, press the LEDome button next to the MIDI input port and splice the received MIDI signal to your zetaSIDs (virtual patching, without a patch cable). Your phybus cluster is now ready for polyphonic MIDI control.
